Sherwood Park Quilt Guild – The Log Cabin Meeting Minutes
Thursday, May 12, 2005
Sherwood Park Community Hall
Sherwood Park, Alberta
The regular meeting of the Sherwood Park Quilt Guild was called to order at 7 p.m. by President Jo McAuley. Joan Sabadash moved the minutes be adopted. Tanya Olinek seconded the motion.
1. Block of the Month
1.1. Presented by Glen Ball as Lorna was at home, sick. A hand out was passed around to sign up for block of month charity quilt.
2. Guild Quilt Guidelines and Operating Procedures
2.1. Cheryl Schewe presented an amendment to the Procedures regarding retreat fees. “All fees must be paid in full, two weeks prior to a retreat. Only in extreme circumstances, such as catastrophic illness or death in the family, will a refund we issued. Final decisions regarding this will be made by the Executive of the Guild”. Cheryl asked for a motion of approval. Joan Sabadash moved it be approved, Tanya Olinek seconded it.
2.2. After a discussion by members, the clause was amended to, “All fees must be paid in full, two weeks prior to a retreat. Only in extenuating circumstances will a refund we issued. Final decisions regarding this will be made by the Executive of the Guild”. Pam Sutherland moved to accept the amendment, Lisa Avis seconded the motion. All members in favor.
3. Quilt Show – Carol LaRose
3.1. Reported that the Pentecostal Assembly on Baseline Road has been booked for October 20th and 21st.
4. Quilt Racks – Cheryl Schewe
4.1. Discussed the displayed prototype quilt racks that were built by Arne Schewe and Bill McGowan at a cost of $50 for metal and $27 for wooden.
4.2. Cost to Guild for building racks by a group of members and spouses will be approximately $2,500/$3,000.
4.3. Guild needs racks to display 280 quilts.
4.4. Guild has been advised not to rent out racks.
4.5. Will not use disc harrows due to high cost and lack of availability.
4.6. First year, racks will be stored in Paule Peloguin’s garage; in a couple of years the Guild will have enough money to rent storage.
4.7. Do we have the money to build? Yes.
4.8. Maureen Martel moved we build the racks. Joan Smith seconded the motion.
5. Elections – Tanya Olinek
5.1. Tanya presented the 2005/2006 executive members’ names. A vote to accept the new executive committee. All in favor – carried.
5.2. Election sheets were left on chairs to fill out
6. Raffle Tickets – Rosanna Vojacek
6.1. All books that have been completely sold must be returned at June meeting.
6.2. All books not completely sold must be returned immediately.
7. Program – Faye Steinbach
7.1. Faye introduced Saskatchewan fibre artist Martha Cole, who gave us a breath-taking, awe-inspiring presentation of her work.
8. Raffle and Door Prize draws
8.1. Block of the Month – Lana Whatley
8.2. Door Prize – Ermeline Ference
8.3. 6.5 inch squares – Linda Klem
8.4. Raffle I – Marilyn Klein
8.5. Raffle II – Carmen Steele
8.6. Show and Tell – Barb Schmidt
9. Jo reminded members that the meeting next month is June 2nd and members should bring a snack.
10. Faye asked those attending Martha Cole’s workshop to assemble at back.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
