Block of the Month

Tin Can Exchange

It's back by popular demand! It's fun and simple to play along. And all for the low, low price of $10 - which will be used for prizes for you! Here's what you need to do:

1. Find a Tin Can you like: If you think it's too small to hold the blocks that will be made, please make sure you enclose it in an appropriate container (i.e. Tupperware)

2. Choose a fabric you like: seal ˝ meter in the tin - others will use a piece of this fabric.

3. Make your first block over the summer. Others will use this first block as a guide to make the rest of the blocks. If you have something specific in mind, feel free to enclose a note. However, this exercise is intended to inspire creativity so try not to put too many rules in the tin.

4. Bring your tin, your first block, and $10 to the September 13, 2007 meeting. Your tin will be numbered and remain anonymous (that is if you don't give yourself away in the step above by writing and signing a lengthy note.) You will take someone else's tin home and bring it back for the October 11, 2007 meeting with a block you have made using your ingenuity, creativity, fabric, and a piece of the enclosed fabric.

5. Collect a tin each month. Names will be randomized in my Secret Random Number Generator™ and posted at each meeting and that's what order you will collect the tins each month.

6. What to do if you go on holiday or get sick: talk to me! I have lots of solutions! For instance, you could opt to take your own tin home if you will be away the next month. Please phone me if you are sick and I can make arrangements to collect your tin. Don't break the chain and cause me worry and stress!

6. What to do if you would like to join late: bring your tin with fabric and the first block inside to any meeting. Just remember - the longer you wait, the fewer blocks you will have at the end.

The 2007 Mystery Quilt Experience

There are two distinct mystery quilts offered this year.  Each mystery quilt registration costs $10.00.  If you want to do both (and some people do), you will need to register for both and pay $20.00 total.

  1. Sky Lights Mystery Quilt - This is a special mystery quilt experience.  It is a story told in chapters that lays out the mystery of the mystery quilt.  This will be an extra special mystery choice and each month you will receive the next chapter to read and instructions for the quilt blocks required that month.  This quilt experience will join everyone together to solve the final mystery!
  2. Solutions Mystery Quilt – This mystery quilt option offers a wall- hanging option and larger lap sized quilt open.  This paper-pieced quilt is spectacular because it is intricate and encompassing.  Each month you will receive instructions on making the set of blocks for that month.  This mystery option can provide enough substance to keep the high energy, motivated quilters engaged, and has plenty of interest to keep the beginners going!

There will be prizes for those who complete the quilts!
